Newsletter intro:

One Love for Nurses is the first electronic newsletter for One Love Nursing Ministries, Inc. It is full of inspiring commentary and stories, useful information, ministry news, and upcoming ministry events. We hope that you enjoy it!

The One Love for Nurses Newsletter is a useful tool to aid our mission. The real bottom line of our mission is simple. Our ultimate goal is to express the love of Christ to nurses and future nurses so in return they are catalyst for His love to those in their care. We are also concerned about the future of the nursing profession and health care for everyone.

Please forward the newsletter on to others who may find our mission of interest. Thank you in advance for your support.

God bless you,

Suzie Farthing, RN

The Power of a Praying Nurse

Suzie Farthing, RN

Nurses are catalyst for healing.  Good nurses are always seeking to improve their skills and use the latest best practices to promote optimal health, expedite a recovery from illness or lessen the suffering of death for their patients.  The best medicine is the simplest and often most over looked.  It is the power of prayer.  It needs no special prescription or technique to work.

I have seen my prayers turn dire situations around for patients and families.  Regretfully, I admit I have let many opportunities to pray with and for my patients pass by though.  Sometimes, even after praying with them, I have shamefully not counted their good recovery as the handy work of God, as much as the miracle of modern medicine and good nursing care.

Shannon’s OLNM Story

Shannon McGhee, RN

In July 2007, I was fortunate enough to accept a travel assignment to Honolulu for three months. It was probably the most exciting time of my adult life. During my orientation to the hospital I was contracted with, I met a girl named Heather. We hit it off right away. She was funny, fun to be around and it was a first time for both of us to travel. Over the next three months I saw something in Heather that I wanted for myself...Faith Out Loud. She spoke it. She lived it.

October came around and so did the end of my contract there. It was time to go home. As sad as I was to leave, I was excited for what lie ahead for me. I mean, there was no way I could just go back to life the way it was before THAT experience!

Spotlight: Ollie Benjamin, BSN, RN

Ollie Benjamin, RN

Ollie Benjamin, RN has been with OLNM since June of last year. After having attended The Third Annual Gathering, she states she knew this is a ministry she had to plug into:

"When the night had ended, I was encouraged beyond belief by the inspirational messages presented. It opened my eyes once again to the tremendous impact we can make in the physical and spiritual lives of our patients. The meeting truly renewed my sense of purpose as a nurse to minister God's love, hope, and healing to those in need."

Her 5-year nursing career started at Baptist Hospital as a PCU nurse. She then, decided to take on a travel assignment to San Diego for 3 months working at the UCSD Medical Center. Currently, she is working with Nurses On Call at various local hospitals.

A Nurse’s Workplace Prayer

Lord, You alone God, are worthy of our praise. You alone God, are all powerful.

We ask Your blessing on each individual member of our team.

Help us to focus on and strive for excellence in nursing that we will be shining examples that glorify You.

Give us the fortitude to complete the needed tasks that will best serve our patients, institution, and community.

Lord, we pray that we will not be filled with selfish ambition or vain conceit, but will be humble in all interactions. Give us a Christ-like character.

As we work, help us to be mindful that You have promised to provide for all our needs.

Settle Your peace and prosperity on our institution, our work areas, and individual lives.

Lord, we are claiming Your full armor so that we can stand against the Devil's schemes toward us, our families, and our work.

In Christ's Holy Name,

 Amen.

Let us pray for you!

ImageAmazing things can happen through prayer and more powerfully when there is prayer in numbers. “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matt. 18:20 NIV)

The One Love Nursing Ministries’ team would like to have the opportunity to pray for you and those you know. Please send us your prayer requests to contact@onelovefornurses.org.

In Matthew 17:20 Jesus said, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Silence is Deadly!

ImageThere is a Phenomenon that exists in nursing: “Nurses eat their young”. We hear it all the time and many have come to accept it as a part of the nursing culture. The Toxic Behaviors in Nursing Undermine Patient Safety, Teamwork and the Giving Potential in Nursing. The Taylor Education Institute supports the theory that Nurses and caregivers can’t fully care for patients until they have learned to care for themselves and other members of the profession. Bullying and bad behaviors do not stop in high school. Those bullies grow up and step into the adult workforce. Ending bad behaviors is important no matter what field you’re in, but it is imperative that nurse’s focus on ending the behaviors, because those nasty behaviors have lasting    effects.
