An Update from Suzie Farthing
Dear friends and family,
Nurses from One Love Nursing Ministries, along with others from our community have just returned from a ten-day mission trip to Jinotega and Managua, Nicaragua. Our fuel was the Lord’s instruction to "Go, heal the sick, and tell them the Kingdom of God is near” (Luke10). Our five makeshift ambulatory care clinics saw to the physical and spiritual needs of 497 Nicaraguans! The real healing however, came to the 17 children and 13 adults who accepted Christ through a unique presentation of the Gospel (Thanks largely to Josie Cossey, our native Nicaraguan evangelist!) We welcomed three new members into our Christian family during a visit to a Leprosy Colony in Managua. These life-changing experiences are pressed into my heart for a lifetime.
Celebrate the Nursing Profession on Friday, May 13
Active, retired, and student nurses along with their special guest are invited to “The Gathering”, a free event celebrating the nursing profession. Doors open at 6:00 pm for registration, refreshments and browsing of area ministries and vendor exhibits. The evening’s inspirational program will begin at 7:00 pm. Door prizes will be given away to nurses in attendance.
One Love Nursing Ministries, Inc. is hosting the evening along with multiple other community sponsors.
Friday, May 13 from 6-9:00 pm. The location is Liberty Church Blue Angel Campus, 2221 South Blue Angel Parkway, in Pensacola.
Erin Bowers, RN, MSN will be speaking atthis year’s community-wide “Gathering” for nurses.
Erin is a Palliative Care (end of life and chronic illness) nurse expert and a retired U.S. Navy Commander. She also serves on the Board of Directors of One Love Nursing Ministries.
A Physician’s Words of Appreciation
Suzie Farthing, RN and the crew from One Love Nursing Ministries were the heart and soul of our recent Medical Mission to Nicaragua from the 21st to the 31st of March 2011. Dr. Smith and I appreciated the incredible efforts of everyone from Lydia and Mary at Triage, to Wanda as nurse practitioner and a fellow provider, to Shannon and Ollie who were the most organized and efficient “pharmacists” I’ve ever worked with. It was also a sight to behold to watch Lydia play “Duck-Duck-Goose,” en Espanol no less, with the children after our first busy day in clinic at Esmeralda.
A Student Nurse Shares Her “One Love” Experience
Since “The Gathering” of 2010, I have had the blessing and opportunity to experience the fellowship of OLNM. Throughout this experience, the ministry has been faithful in fulfilling their mission statement of supporting the spiritual well being and purpose of other nurses, including student nurses. OLNM provides regular opportunities for nurturing the holistic health of nurses through studying God’s Word and Christian fellowship. I treasure our gatherings, the encouragement we give to one another, and the friendships that have blossomed. I support the mission of this ministry and look forward to a long relationship with OLNM and giving back to the community what has been given to me through this ministry.

Love’s Touch – a Poem by Jim Mather
A hidden heart
A broken part
A wound that lies within.
A surgeon’s knife, it cuts me twice but healing never comes
I stand alone inside myself, a broken soul untouched
The longing cries without a voice for who will come my way?
I need a touch , I need a hand ,to reach within my heart
A soft step moves toward my own home, hope arises from without
A light comes out of someone else, whose soul can read my own
The hand is placed upon my wound and warmness fills my heart
I look into the eyes of love and ask whom God has sent
A simple word issues from above, ‘your nurse’ is who I am.
Love’s touch reaches deeper to places yet unseen
No surgeon’s knife or medicine can touch what lies within
A nurse who cares, who listens deep , brings healing from above
The touch of love will heal the heart that will never be the same.

Ruth’s Uniform Shop Supports the Nursing Profession with Donations
Now everyone can help them support OLNM when they visit the shop and make a purchase. When you visit and make a purchase during the month of May, Ruth’s Uniform Shop will contribute 10% of your purchase to our ministry. Therefore nurses, stop by and pick a new scrub top or two along with a new pair of scissors (to replace the ones you lost!). Pick up a little something to show that special nurse in your life you appreciate them; Nurse’s week is May 6th-12th. Your purchases will help make a difference in the nursing profession. We will also see you at The Gathering for nurses on May 13th.
Thank you, Ruth’s Uniform Shop, for being a faithful supporter of One Love’s mission to serve the nursing profession for many years now.
